Update Email Settings

Please note that sending email without secure SSL authentication is extremely insecure, and we highly recommend working with your clients to standardize their mail clients to use the following settings:

Secure SSL/TLS Settings (Recommended)
Username: Use your email account
Password: Use your email account’s password.
Incoming Server: server.tarheelsearch.com
IMAP Port: 993
POP3 Port: 995
Outgoing Server: server.tarheelsearch.com
SMTP Port: 465

**NOTE**
You MUST enable SSL for outgoing and incoming connections
Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) is REQUIRED
My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication should be CHECKED

To do this, it would depend on what version of Mac Mail the client is utilizing however here are the general steps:

Step 1) Click the “Mail” icon on your Mac to launch the Mail application.
Step 2) Click “Mail” from the Mail application’s main toolbar menu and select the “Preferences” option.
Step 3) Click the “+” icon located at the bottom of the “Accounts” menu.
Step 4) Enter your name, webmail address and password in the appropriate text fields. Click the “Continue” button.
Step 5) Select your webmail account type from the “Account Type” drop-down menu. You can select either “POP” or “IMAP.”
Step 6) Enter a description for your webmail account. Enter your webmail account’s incoming mail server, username and password. Click the “Continue” button.
Step 7) Enter your webmail account’s outgoing mail server, username and password. If your outgoing mail server requires authentication then click to put a check in the “Use Authentication” box. Click the “Continue” button.
Step 8) Click the “Create” button to complete the setup process for your webmail account.

None SSL Email settings:

Non-SSL Settings

Username: your email
Password: Use the email account’s password.
Incoming Server: mail.yourdomain.com

  • IMAP Port: 143
  • POP3 Port: 110
Outgoing Server: mail.yourdomain.com

  • SMTP Port: 26
Authentication is required for IMAP, POP3, and SMTP.
